    Abstract

The French General Union of Engineers, Executives and Technicians of the General Confederation of Labour (UGICT-CGT) worked with union statisticians in the statistical departments of the Ministry of Labour (Dares) and the Ministry of Health (Drees) to conduct an online survey on the professional status of employees, the “Working in an Epidemic Survey” (TrEpid). The questionnaire was designed by union activists who were statisticians working in the Ministry of Social Affairs, experts in the areas covered. Insofar as possible, the questions were taken or adapted from surveys with “quality statistics and general interest” accreditation, awarded by the French National Committee on Statistical Data (Cnis). The individuals were asked about their professional and personal status, their main status during the lockdown (continued working on site, remote working, or loss of work, etc.). Additional questions related to the working conditions within the establishment. The sample collected was likely to cause selection biases in terms of respondents, for whom the average characteristics did not correspond to the overall population, for example, such as self-employed workers. Statistical methods were used to correct the sample structure (by type, socioprofessional category, type of employer and unionisation, etc.) to ensure that it corresponded to the characteristics of the French population by applying a margin calibration method. The evidence presented during this study also originates from data collected by the survey scheme, in response to open-ended or semi-open-ended questions (based on “Other: please specify...”).
